Controlled-environment plant propagation

Truestart is a Montreal-based agricultural technology company that grows seedlings in a controlled-environment indoor farm. It adapts a GreenBox technology originally developed for the forestry industry to indoor horticulture, and operates a “Seedlings as a Service” model that delivers disease-free, transplant-ready trays directly into customers' growing systems.

Pest and disease outbreaks such as Fusarium and Phytophthora cause substantial crop losses in Canadian horticulture, while inefficient resource management and slow technology adoption compound the damage. By supplying certified, pathogen-free seedlings produced under fully controlled conditions, Truestart lets growers avoid those losses, reduce labour costs and reclaim the space normally given over to propagation.

Its differentiators include a clean-plant programme with regular DNA multi-scans, an online management platform for seed ordering and inventory, real-time traceability, company-owned delivery, and a diverse crop range. The company plans to deploy fourteen GreenBox units across three strategic Canadian locations, beginning with its Montreal North facility, and is advised by researchers at McGill University.
