Openbasket
A retail concept giving consumers free access to essential goods, funded by tiered and augmented-reality advertising.
Retail access and sustainable packaging
Openbasket is a retail concept that provides consumers with free access to essential goods, funded not by the shopper but by a restructured advertising model. Products are made available at no cost within daily, weekly and monthly limits managed through a membership system, ensuring fair distribution across the customer base.
The cost of goods is met through tiered marketing carried on the packaging itself: a first tier occupying 75 per cent of the marked surface, a second tier occupying 25 per cent, and a third tier delivered through augmented reality via a dedicated consumer application. Marketing partners purchase three-month, six-month or one-year campaigns across these tiers.
Sustainability is built into the model rather than added to it: all products stocked are non-perishable and suitable for long-term storage, packaging is sourced from recycled materials, and an in-store recycling programme encourages responsible disposal. Aimed at families, students and budget-conscious households, the concept demonstrates that access to essential goods and commercially viable marketing need not be in tension.
